Softball tryouts take place at Morey Field (aka Sticker Stadium) located at the corner of Ocean and Aster roads, Baseball tryouts take place at Higbee Field located on the corner of Atlantic & Aster roads in Wildwood Crest.

The following players must attend tryouts:

1) All Baseball and Softball players league age 9

2) All Baseball and Softball players league age 10 -12 who have not played on the Major League level in Greater Wildwood Little League

All Players required to attend tryouts must attend at least one of the scheduled tryouts.

Parents, please make sure your child brings his/her own equipment (cleats, bat, glove etc.) to tryouts.  Please note: your child will not be permitted to participate in tryouts unless (1) you have registered your child, and (2) you have provided the league with a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Greater Wildwood Little League provides the opportunity for all children ages five through foruteen years old to play baseball in a safe and positive environment, regardless of experience or ability. We emphasize teaching sportsmanship, building self-esteem and developing a safe community for all kids. While teaching the fundamentals of the game of baseball and softball, we seek to instill the values inscribed in the Little League motto – Character, Courage, Loyalty.

There are THREE ways to register your child:

Method #1 – Register in person at our local Community Centers

Registration Dates:

• Friday, February 8, 2013 – 4:30 to 6:30 pm
  Byrne Community Center, 401 West Youngs Avenue, Wildwood
• Saturday, February 23, 2013 – 10am to 12 pm
  Crest Pier, 5800 Ocean Avenue, Wildwood Crest
• Saturday, March 2, 2013 – 10am to 12 pm AND 2 to 4 pm
  North Wildwood Community Center, 900 Central Avenue, North Wildwood
• Sunday, March 10, 2013 – 9 to 11 am
  Byrne Community Center, 401 West Youngs Avenue, Wildwood

Method #2 - Register Online (a $6.35 convenience fee will be added to online registrations)

Method #3 – Download, complete and mail our Registration Form and Medical Waiver

Registration Fees
Tee Ball & Minors (Ages 4 to 9): $50 per child**
Majors and Juniors (Ages 10 and up): $75 per child
(Be sure to check the Age Chart or the Little League Age Calculator to determine your child’s “league age”.)

• Players registering after March 2, 2013 will be assessed a $25.00 late fee.
• **If your 9 year old is drafted up into the Majors, you will be required to pay an additional $25.00
• Financial assistance is available for qualifying families. Fill out an application form on day of registration.
• Fees are capped at $200 per family (excluding late fees).

Player Eligibility
GWLL Baseball is open to all players, both boys and girls, ranging in age from 5 to 14 that reside in Wildwood, West Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest. New players must provide a copy of their birth certificate for league files along with a proof of residence such as drivers license, utility bill, etc. Refer to www.GWLL.org for more details.  Be sure to check the Age Chart or the Little League Age Calculator to determine your child’s “league age”.

Managers & Coaches
We are seeking managers/coaches in all divisions. We welcome experienced managers/coaches as well as those willing to learn. Please fill out a Volunteer Application form during registration.

GWLL is offering a Fall Ball league for all boys and girls who will play at the “majors” level next year (2012 League Age 8-11).  Fall Ball is more instructional than competitive, and is a great way for players to continue to improve their baseball and softball skills. We understand that fall is Soccer and Football season, that is why we will do everything we can to schedule Fall Baseball and Softball around the other fall sports.  (Note: There will be a softball team only if there is enough interest by the registration close date.)

Details:

• Games will be played at Higbee Field, Lower and Middle Township Fields.
• 1 to 2 games per week.  (schedule to be announced)
• Games will be scheduled around Cape Express, Rec Soccer and Football.
• Season will run from approximately 3rd week of September through the first week of November.
• A team uniform shirt will be provided for each player.  All other equipment including pants is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

• Batters receive one practice swing and 10 competition swings. Since a pitching machine is used, every pitch should be the same. However, there are times that a pitch is either too high or too low and this is determined by the Home Run Derby operator. If this happens, the batter receives another pitch. Batters do not have to swing at every pitch.
• Batters are awarded points for each swing and the distance of each hit. Distances differ by age group:

• There are three levels of competition:

• Local competitions are held in towns or townships in April through July. The top three winners in each division advance to the Regionals.
• Regional competitions are held in eight different locations. Each local winner is assigned to a regional competition and the first place winner in each division advances to the Championship.
• The Championship is held at Citizens Bank Park prior to a Phillies game. This year the Championship will be held on Sunday, August 30.
